Vinous Neal Martin - 18 Aug 22
Light in colour compared with the preceding vintage, the 1925 Climens is clear in hue. The bouquet is shallow by comparison, just fleeting traces of mandarin, barley sugar, smoke, walnut and tertiary elements. Whilst delineated it does suggest an absence of botrytis. The palate is medium-bodied with a muffled entry, notes of orange peel and desiccated peach and Chinese 5-spice, though this bottle exhibits some oxidation towards the finish. Drink soon. Tasted November 2009 at the Château Climens vertical in Zurich.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
